It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind. We go to work, come home, check our emails and social media accounts, watch TV or read a book. Some days it feels like we’re just going through the motions of life without really finding our way to make a difference or having an impact.
That’s okay – but you should make sure that you do not just exist as a person without really making your mark on this world.
You have to find what it is that makes you tick. What drives you? What lights you up? What excites you? Which career path is for you? What gets you out of bed in the morning, moving forward with an unstoppable force, and moving forward to your high-impact career? If you’re unsure about your passion, do some soul searching.
Look inside of yourself and ask those critical questions. And the more that you dig down deep, the more that your passion will reveal itself to you.
Once you’ve figured out what drives you to be your best, you can start making a difference and incorporate it into your career plan. If you’re unsure of what you want to do with your life or how to make an impact, look at all of the things around you and find ways to improve upon or fix them.
Don’t let yourself sit around wishing or hoping for change – get out there and work towards creating a better world for yourself and everyone else you know, and be a difference-maker.
Start with why and find your purpose.
Why do you want to make a difference and change the world? What is your driving force? How do you visualize your career success? If you’re passionate about helping people and making a difference in people, then a healthcare career or a social worker might suit you the best. If environmental issues make you furious, then focusing your energy on helping to fix those problems may be the way to go.
Once you know why you want to change the world and make an impact, it’ll be easier to find your purpose. And once you have a purpose that excites you, it’ll be easier to continue working towards making a difference.
It’s essential that you find your passion and your purpose – and don’t get stuck in a job that only pays the bills but doesn’t fulfill you or make an impact on the world as it should. There are many jobs in this world, so think about what you enjoy doing and look for jobs to achieve those things.
But, How do you find why?
So, you’ve identified what makes you tick and what lights you up – but how do you go from there? How can you use your passion to make an impact in the world? Use your passion to find your purpose and follow it.
If your passion gets people excited, then it’s easier to find a way to use that passion to help other people. If helping people is your driving force, then go out and make a difference.
Think about how you can help people and think outside of the box. For example, if you love dogs, then you could go out and become a dog walker/pet sitter.
Not only are you helping to care for other people’s pets when they’re away, but you’re also giving those pets some much-needed exercise and socializing.
Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box; take your passion, and put it to good use. And once you’re doing that – take it a step further.
Act local, Connect global!
Once you get started and are making a difference, don’t be afraid to reach out. Get involved with volunteer opportunities in your community and connect with social causes that you believe in. Use the internet to your advantage, but don’t just post on Facebook about things you’re passionate about or change you want to create. Could you do something about it?
Use the internet to help spread the word and find ways to start making a difference right now. And once you get started, don’t stop – keep reaching out and keep making a difference.
Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and help people in your community organization. It’s not about being a celebrity – it’s about making a difference and changing the world. Use what you’ve got and get involved with local organizations going out of their way to do something good for other people in your community. Meanwhile, connect with other volunteers, social leaders, or international organizations doing the same.
You can also make a difference by the purchases that you make. Choose environmentally friendly, fair-trade, and that don’t use child labor. These kinds of products can help to keep the world a better place.
Change your perspective and see things differently
When you make a difference in the world, it helps you gain a new perspective on life itself and develop a new approach to life. It can help you realize how good you’ve got it and how there are people out there who have so much less than what they need.
It can show you that there are people who have been treated so unjustly, and the worst part is that they may never see it through. It can also help you gain a new perspective on how much of an impact you can make just by being yourself.
So, don’t let yourself think that you have no impact. You do!
The difference we make in the world is not always noticeable and can be hard to measure. We all go about our lives and never know the positive impacts of our actions. But this difference is closer than we think, and it is up to us to make a change for the better.
Clean water is a basic human need, but not everyone has access to it. The United Nations estimates that 1 in 10 people on Earth live without clean water, and many more live with only limited access. Several organizations are working to provide safe water sources for people in developing countries who have been impacted by drought or natural disasters. Yet, there remains a significant need for clean drinking water in places where extreme poverty prevails.
We can also positively impact our communities by being present in them.
To have a happy, healthy, and resilient community, we need to understand their needs. The changes in their environment mustn’t negatively impact children. They should be actively involved in the process to grow up to be more compassionate adults with a sense of responsibility towards the community they live in.
All in all, not everyone can change the world or change a light bulb – but that doesn’t mean that anything is impossible. Everyone should be able to make a positive impact on this world in some way. Don’t just follow role models, be a role model for yourself.
