Who can apply?
Techstars describes its accelerators as support for early-stage startups. Eligibility is set program by program. The Techstars Anywhere page, for example, says it looks for “founders who are domain experts building value-generating technologies across industries”, with an emphasis on robotics, energy, applied and physical AI and materials science, and that it serves companies in North American time zones. The Boston page describes a program that is industry agnostic, with a focus on AI and machine learning, robotics, healthtech, tech bio and critical infrastructure.
For Impact DOTS readers, the practical point is simple. Techstars is a general startup accelerator, not an impact-specific call. Social entrepreneurs with a scalable, venture-backable product, particularly in climate, energy or health technology, are the readers most likely to fit. NGOs and grant-funded organizations are not the target.
What does the program offer?
The program pages list three months of intensive, mentorship-driven support and access to the Techstars network. They do not publish investment terms for this edition. The Techstars help center states that “for the vast majority of our programs, we offer $220,000”: $200,000 through an uncapped MFN SAFE and $20,000 through a Post-money Convertible Equity Agreement. In return, Techstars says it receives 5% of the company in common stock, plus the future value of the $200,000 SAFE. That article was last modified on 8 April 2025 and does not name a cohort, so confirm the exact terms of your chosen program in the application portal before you commit.
This is an equity investment, not an application fee. Read the Techstars investment article in full.

Advice from the Impact DOTS team
- Match your venture to one program’s stated focus. A founder who fits the sector and time zone of a specific program has a clearer case than one applying to a general pool.
- Check that your product and growth plan suit a venture-backed model. The program is an equity investment, so the structure has to make sense for your cap table.
- Back every claim about your results with documents you can show. Impact DOTS puts evidence over inspiration, and an accelerator reviewer will ask for the same.
